WASHINGTON — Bathroom decor at a Florida school sparked outrage Tuesday when a school board member said it was too “too cute.”
A Florida State University student said he’s proud of the bathroom decor he installed on his bathroom, but it’s inappropriate for students to use.
Brett Johnson said he wanted to “break the taboo” and “get out there and make a statement” about how “too sexy” bathrooms are.
He said his bathroom decor features a “pumpkin” head, a rainbow-colored clock and a rainbow curtain.
He also says the clock is made of recycled cardboard.
Johnson said he took photos of the ceiling and floor, then shared them on Facebook.
He said his fellow students and the school board agreed.
The school board said it will look into the decor and Johnson said the school should apologize to the students.
The controversy has brought attention to an issue Johnson said is “a very serious issue.”
He said it’s not about bathrooms, but about what students should be able to wear and the standards that students should meet in order to be accepted to college.
Johnson added he hopes the school district is listening.
